In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the status of septic system inspections and the upcoming renewal of licenses for property owners. Currently, there are four standard licenses available, with renewal reminders set to be sent out in November. David Wilson, a department representative, highlighted ongoing efforts to inform current license holders about new regulations that took effect in March, which include mandatory septic inspections and fire safety checks.
As the building season draws to a close, Wilson reported a significant reduction in outstanding inspections, from over 50 at the beginning of the summer to just 17 remaining. Additionally, 14 properties have been identified as needing complete septic system replacements, while an equal number require minor repairs. Four property owners have opted not to renew their licenses, further reducing the number of active licenses.
The meeting also addressed the grace period for certain systems that have been flagged for failure. Some property owners will have until 2026 to comply with the new regulations, but those with failing systems are urged to begin the repair process as soon as possible. Officials emphasized the importance of communication with license holders to ensure they are aware of the new requirements and the urgency of addressing any septic issues before the 2025 deadline.
