During a recent government meeting, community members highlighted local initiatives aimed at fostering youth engagement and support for school sports. Matt Carter, assistant coach for the Moffett County girls' fast pitch softball team, announced the team's upcoming home game on April 24 at 4 PM against Aspen. With a roster primarily composed of freshmen and only two players with prior experience, Carter emphasized the importance of community support to help the team grow and succeed. He expressed gratitude to the school district for establishing the team following the discontinuation of the swimming program and encouraged volunteers to assist the girls.
In addition, members of the high school Key Club, Josefina Adams and Bella Vanzo, provided an update on their activities. They shared their commitment to community service, detailing past projects such as volunteering at local events and assisting neighbors. The Key Club plans to continue its outreach by organizing group volunteer efforts, including making tie blankets for senior homes and creating kindness rocks for schools. They also aim to raise funds for local nonprofits, with a goal of distributing around $10,000 at the end of the year.
Both presentations underscored the community's dedication to supporting youth initiatives and fostering a spirit of volunteerism in Moffett County.
