During a recent Gaston County Board of Education meeting, the spotlight shone brightly on local students for their remarkable achievements. The meeting commenced with a heartfelt pledge of allegiance led by fourth grader Adele Saint Romaine from New Hope Elementary School, who was later recognized as the \"Proudest Kid in Gaston County\" for her winning essay in a countywide contest. Adele's essay celebrated the joys of learning and community activities in Gaston County, earning her a trophy and a medal at a special event.

The meeting also honored James Dover, a senior at South Point High School, who was awarded the prestigious Coolidge Scholarship, covering all expenses for four years of undergraduate study. James, a three-time spelling bee champion, was selected from over 4,100 applicants and has made significant contributions to his community, including founding North Carolina's only junior chapter of the National Association of the Deaf.

Additionally, the South Point High School tennis team was celebrated for winning the school's first-ever 3A dual team state championship. The team, led by standout performances from players including championship MVP She Patel, showcased their skills throughout the season, culminating in a decisive victory over Fike High School.

The board expressed pride in these students' accomplishments, emphasizing the importance of community support and the bright futures ahead for these young achievers.
