Residents of Meridian and Kuna voiced significant concerns during a recent government meeting regarding the impact of proposed housing developments on local infrastructure and community resources.

One resident highlighted the current traffic issues in their subdivision, noting that with only 20 homes, the single exit onto Meridian Road already causes significant congestion during peak hours. The resident expressed alarm over the potential addition of hundreds more homes, which could exacerbate the situation, particularly with no dedicated turn lane for left turns onto busy roads.

Another speaker, John Lane, emphasized the importance of maintaining the R1 zoning designation, which allows for larger lots and a connection to local food sources. He warned that increasing density with R6 zoning could lead to overcrowded schools and unsafe roads, echoing concerns about the lack of infrastructure development to support new housing. Lane pointed out that the current schools are already operating above capacity, with elementary schools at 108-113% capacity and high schools at 107-111%.

Tammy Huff, another resident, raised broader concerns about the trend of approving high-density housing developments in Kuna. She argued for a reconsideration of the number of homes allowed on large lots to alleviate the strain on schools and roads. Huff stressed the importance of ensuring that local children receive a quality education, warning that overcrowded schools could jeopardize the future of the community.
