In a recent government meeting, officials outlined a comprehensive plan for a significant renovation project at a local school, projected to span approximately two years. The initiative involves relocating students within the school to facilitate renovations, including the transformation of the cafeteria and kitchen, which will not disrupt student movement during the seven-month construction period.
The project will also include the construction of new classrooms, with an estimated cost of $9 million, and additional site work, which encompasses necessary preparations for the expansion, including wetlands management and the relocation of portable classrooms. The total raw construction costs are projected to be around $32 million, with soft costs—covering design, furniture, and other allowances—bringing the overall budget to approximately $38 million.
To finance this extensive renovation, officials indicated that a bond approval would be necessary, as any addition to the building requires such funding measures. The meeting highlighted the careful planning involved in coordinating construction schedules with the school calendar to minimize disruption to students and staff.
