During a recent government meeting, Gaye Allen provided an update on class sizes and enrollment figures for the current school year. With five days of school completed, preliminary data indicates a positive trend in student enrollment across the district.
Allen reported that while elementary school figures are more robust, middle and high school data is still being compiled, with only two days of attendance recorded thus far. The state had projected an enrollment of 3,896 students for the 2024-2025 school year, based on regular enrollment counts. However, the district's current Average Daily Membership Regular (ADMR) count stands at 4,004, reflecting an increase of approximately nine students compared to the previous year.
This increase is significant as it counters earlier expectations of declining enrollment. Allen explained that the state allows districts in a declining enrollment situation to use the higher of the current year's or the previous year's enrollment figures for funding calculations. As such, the district will utilize the current count of 4,004 for state school fund calculations, which is a positive indicator for the district's financial outlook.
Despite the encouraging numbers, Allen cautioned that fluctuations are expected as the school year progresses, particularly with seniors graduating in the spring. The meeting underscored the importance of ongoing monitoring of enrollment trends to ensure adequate resources and support for students throughout the academic year.
