During a recent government meeting, resident Jim Baker voiced concerns regarding traffic management in his Carrollton neighborhood, particularly in light of the upcoming LIV Golf Tournament. Representing a homeowners association of 182 homes located near Keller Springs and Kelly Boulevard, Baker expressed frustration over the lack of action from local authorities to mitigate the anticipated influx of vehicles and spectators.
Baker detailed efforts made since June to engage with city officials, including the director of economic development and local police commanders, but reported that no effective solutions had been implemented. He highlighted a specific issue: the planned blockade of Kelly Boulevard south of his neighborhood, which would redirect traffic through residential streets, potentially turning the area into an unofficial parking lot for the event.
He urged officials to reconsider the placement of the blockade, suggesting it be moved to a location that would allow for better traffic flow without impacting the neighborhood. Baker referenced past successful traffic management during the Fourth of July festivities as a precedent for effective planning.
While the council members were unable to respond directly due to Texas Open Meetings Act regulations, they assured Baker that someone would follow up with him regarding his concerns. The public forum concluded without further comments, and the council moved into a work session to address other business matters.
