In a recent government meeting, officials outlined a comprehensive strategy aimed at increasing enrollment in Phoenix schools, particularly focusing on early education and community engagement. The district has initiated a marketing campaign targeting families in Phoenix and those commuting into downtown, emphasizing the ease of online enrollment and the availability of specialty programs.
Historically, the district relied on paper registrations and opened enrollment only in July. This year, however, efforts have shifted towards enhancing preschool opportunities, as data indicates that students who attend preschool within the district are more likely to continue their education there. To support working families, the district is also prioritizing quality before and after school programming.
The district's interim goal is to boost kindergarten enrollment from 516 students in the 2022-2023 school year to 560 by 2024-2025. Current enrollment statistics show that 39.8% of new students are enrolling from within the district, with 47% coming from preschool programs and 10% from Head Start partners.
To further these goals, the district has launched two billboard advertising campaigns that garnered approximately 20 million impressions and participated in various community events to promote enrollment. These initiatives included health fairs, neighborhood association events, and partnerships with local businesses, all aimed at attracting families who may be considering charter schools or other educational options.
Additionally, the district is developing multimedia presentations to showcase specialized programming, with plans to produce three new videos in the upcoming school year. These videos will highlight various aspects of school life, including arts programs and early learning initiatives.
The meeting underscored the importance of proactive outreach, with district representatives actively engaging with community members to share enrollment information and resources. This multi-faceted approach aims to create a welcoming environment for new families and ensure that the district remains a competitive choice for education in the area.
