In a heartfelt government meeting, Benton County officials celebrated the remarkable life-saving efforts of first responders and a courageous citizen, Joanne Ott, who played a pivotal role in saving her husband, Bradley Ott, from cardiac arrest.

On May 20, 2024, Bradley experienced severe breathing difficulties, prompting Joanne to call 911. As she awaited help, Bradley stopped breathing. Mayo ambulance dispatcher Joel Newberg provided critical CPR instructions over the phone, which Joanne executed under intense emotional pressure. Her prompt and effective CPR was crucial in maintaining Bradley's chances of survival.

First responders, including Minnesota State Patrol Trooper Brian Moser and Deputy David Bondfield, arrived shortly after the call. They quickly attached an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) while continuing CPR. Foley police officers Bart Kaufman and Cody Pausch joined the effort, assisting with the AED to restore Bradley's heart rhythm. The Foley Fire Department then deployed a Lucas device to automate chest compressions, which ultimately helped revive Bradley.

Miraculously, Bradley regained consciousness and was able to communicate with the responders before being transported to the hospital for further care. His recovery is a testament to the effectiveness of early CPR and the coordinated response of the emergency team.

During the meeting, officials honored the efforts of all involved, particularly recognizing Joanne with the Citizens Lifesaving Award for her bravery and quick thinking. The event underscored the importance of community preparedness and the critical role of first responders in saving lives.
