During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the upcoming public hearing for the transit sales and use tax as part of a five-year improvement plan. The plan includes significant projects aimed at enhancing local infrastructure, with two major initiatives slated for next year: a complete urban reconstruction of Arkansas Road in Park Rapids and the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Casa 7 and 40.
Additional projects in the five-year plan include upgrading Cassatt 23 from gravel to bituminous surface and converting the intersections of Cassav 15 and Cassava 6 into roundabouts. These improvements are expected to visually transform the area and enhance traffic flow.
The proposed local option sales tax, set at half a cent on retail sales, aims to generate approximately $1.7 million annually to fund these transportation projects. The tax will be reviewed every two years, with the next assessment scheduled for 2026. Public feedback from recent meetings indicated a preference for a more discussion-oriented format, which officials plan to maintain in future sessions.
