The establishment, operated by the Lake Omo Inn, is recognized as a premier venue in Minnesota, and its owners, John and Christine Schlitz, have expressed a strong commitment to both the depot and the surrounding community.

The opening of 1881 follows a successful summer for the Union Depot, which has hosted various events, including choo choo bobs and the Borealis exhibit. The excitement continues with the introduction of Danielle Miller, the owner of the new Storyline Bookstore, who is eager to embark on her first entrepreneurial venture at the depot.

With the Union Depot now operating at full capacity, officials anticipate a surge in visitors during the holiday season, particularly from the European market, which is expected to bring in 10,000 to 20,000 people daily. This influx is seen as a positive development for the depot and the Lower Town area, as local leaders emphasize the need for increased foot traffic downtown.
