During a recent government meeting, county officials highlighted significant achievements and community events while honoring a prominent labor leader.

Leanne Magowski, head of the Department of Emergency Communications, received commendation for her team's exceptional performance. In the fiscal year 2023-2024, the dispatch center managed over 659,000 calls, with 292,000 classified as emergencies. Notably, 83% of 911 calls were answered within 15 seconds. The department has also integrated artificial intelligence technology to streamline operations, resulting in a 35% reduction in non-emergency calls requiring human intervention. Additionally, the implementation of Spark online reporting has enhanced non-emergency incident reporting, allowing dispatchers to concentrate on critical emergency calls. Feedback from the public has been overwhelmingly positive, with over 88% satisfaction reported in recent months.

The meeting also featured announcements of upcoming community events. Supervisor Askew invited residents to a community listening session on Hispanic Heritage Month scheduled for September 4, and encouraged participation in the West End Festival this weekend, promising a variety of activities and entertainment.

Supervisor Carroll reflected on the success of Car Week, which attracted over 100,000 attendees, and announced mobile office hours at the Latino Farmers Market. He also promoted two community events on Sunday: Galleghetza Salinas, celebrating Oaxacan culture, and the annual Touch a Truck event.

In a heartfelt moment, Supervisor Alejo paid tribute to Crescensio Diaz, the late president of Teamsters Local 890, who was recognized for his lifelong dedication to labor rights and advocacy for workers. Diaz's contributions to the labor movement in California and Arizona were celebrated, with condolences extended to his family and colleagues.
