In a recent government meeting, the North Las Vegas City Council approved two significant zoning changes despite receiving public opposition. The council voted to reclassify approximately 0.77 acres of land from a professional office commercial district to a neighborhood commercial district, located at the northwest corner of Cheyenne Avenue and Coleman Street. This decision followed the receipt of seven comment cards expressing opposition to the zoning changes.
Council members emphasized the importance of addressing community concerns while moving forward with the zoning approval. The motion to approve the zoning change was passed unanimously after a brief discussion, with no additional comments from council members.
Additionally, the council set future public hearing dates and introduced an ordinance to extend the city’s corporate limits by annexing parcels of land at the southeast corner of East Fisher Avenue and North Sloan Lane.
In other business, Marvin Parker was appointed to the Veterans Community Commission to fill an unexpired term ending May 31, 2026. Parker was invited to address the council, marking a step forward in community engagement and representation.
The meeting highlighted the council's commitment to balancing development with community input, as they navigate the complexities of urban planning and local governance.
