During a recent government meeting, notable achievements in education and athletics were celebrated, highlighting the accomplishments of students and educators within the Rockdale County community.

The meeting commenced with an acknowledgment of students who excelled in regional and state competitions. A special apology was issued for the oversight of Peter Gonzalez, who won first place in the region and participated at the state level in the senior group exhibit category. The community was invited to congratulate him, and a photo opportunity was provided.

Next, the Salem High School boys' four by 400 meters relay team was recognized for their outstanding performance during the previous spring season. The team completed an undefeated regular season and was ranked among the top five relay teams in Georgia. They secured back-to-back championships, including the GHSA sectional B championship, qualifying them for the upcoming 2024 Georgia High School Association track and field championship. Individual accolades were also highlighted, particularly for La Terrance Fleming, who achieved significant success in the 300 intermediate hurdles and earned national recognition as a USA Track and Field All-American.

The meeting also honored participants of the Rockdale Educational Academy for Leadership, which included two cohorts: Aspire and Aspire 2.0. This year-long program focused on developing leadership skills through various experiences, including seminars and action research projects. Several individuals were recognized for their completion of the program, with many set to take on new leadership roles in the upcoming school year.
