In a recent government meeting, officials highlighted the significant impact of various support programs aimed at assisting students and families, particularly those connected to military service. The discussion centered around the implementation of embedded therapists and family advocate programs, which have proven essential in addressing the needs of students facing various challenges.

The district has employed two military educational therapists, both licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs), who have provided individualized therapy to 62 students with military connections. This initiative aims to bridge the gap in mental health services that these students often face, despite their families having access to military benefits. The family advocate program, led by experienced supervisors, has seen substantial engagement, assisting over 4,166 individual students at the elementary level last year. The advocates focus on empowering families by providing hands-on assistance and guidance, rather than simply directing them to resources. This approach aims to foster independence and self-sufficiency among families.

At the junior high level, a new family coordinator program has been established, addressing a critical transitional period for students. In its first semester, the program served 1,106 students, filling a gap in support that previously existed between elementary and high school services.

The meeting also featured poignant testimonials from students who have benefited from these programs. One student, Lewis, shared that without the support he received, he might not have survived. Such statements underscore the profound impact these initiatives have on students' lives.
