In a recent planning commission meeting, community concerns were raised regarding a proposed expansion project by Gallo Winery, which aims to consolidate glass storage operations closer to its existing facilities. Adolfo Martinez, a local resident, voiced strong opposition, highlighting issues with Gallo's maintenance of nearby vacant parcels, which he described as littered and poorly kept. He urged the company to address these concerns before proceeding with further development.

Martinez noted that the public hearing was the first notification many residents received about the project, despite ongoing requests for infrastructure improvements, such as sewer and sidewalk installations, which were only recently completed. He expressed frustration over the diminishing residential community in the area, emphasizing the need for Gallo to prioritize the upkeep of its properties.

In contrast, Drew Leyland, representing Gallo, defended the project as an infill development that would reduce truck traffic by consolidating operations, thereby benefiting both the company and the community. Leyland stated that the project would eliminate approximately 7,000 truck trips annually, which he argued would alleviate traffic and noise issues.

The planning commission ultimately voted unanimously to recommend that the Board of Supervisors approve the project, asserting that it does not conflict with a 1991 settlement agreement referenced during discussions. Despite the commission's support, concerns about traffic safety and property maintenance lingered, as expressed by other landowners following the meeting.

The commission's recommendations include findings related to environmental reviews and proposed amendments to the general plan, paving the way for Gallo's continued expansion in the area.
