In a recent government meeting, officials provided an overview of the paratransit service, Ride Lake County, highlighting its development and operational details since its launch two years ago. The service, designed for individuals with mobility limitations, offers flexible, on-demand transportation throughout the county, ensuring accessibility for seniors aged 60 and above and individuals with disabilities.
The meeting emphasized the importance of understanding paratransit as a non-fixed route service that operates curb-to-curb, allowing passengers to travel anywhere within the county for any purpose. The service has seen significant uptake since its inception, with hundreds of rides recorded in its first week alone.
Officials noted that Ride Lake County utilizes wheelchair-accessible vehicles and operates seven days a week from 6 AM to 6 PM, with some exceptions for fixed holidays. The service area extends beyond county lines to include full municipal boundaries of bordering communities, provided that one end of the trip starts or ends in Lake County.
Looking ahead, the meeting also touched on preparations for the upcoming 2025 operating agreement with PACE, which will further define the future of paratransit services in the region. The discussions underscored the commitment to enhancing mobility options for vulnerable populations and ensuring that transportation remains accessible and efficient.
