Brevik highlighted that the previous curriculum, Creative Curriculum, lacked structure and adaptability, particularly for special needs students. The new curriculum is designed to address these shortcomings, providing a clear scope and sequence that aligns with Ohio educational standards.

Frog Street Press was chosen for its research-based approach, which incorporates current educational practices and emphasizes social-emotional learning through strategies like conscious discipline. This method aims to equip teachers and students with tools for self-regulation, a critical skill for transitioning into more demanding educational environments.

Financial considerations also played a crucial role in the decision. The district anticipates saving approximately $75,000 annually on online access and professional development costs compared to the previous curriculum. The new program includes an assessment system called Cognitive Toy Box, which will allow educators to track student progress throughout the academic year, a capability that was previously lacking.
