In a recent government meeting, officials highlighted a significant increase in student enrollment across various educational programs, with approximately 200 additional students joining from the 2022-2023 to the 2024-2025 academic years. This growth is attributed to collaborative efforts among middle school guidance counselors, administrators, and instructors who have actively engaged students in career and technical education pathways.
The enrollment figures, taken from snapshots on September 1st of each year, indicate a rise in participation in both district cyber programs and in-person career technical labs. Erie High School, in particular, has seen its student population grow from 900 to about 914. The success of this initiative is credited to the hard work of district staff, who have facilitated tours and information sessions for middle school students, helping them transition smoothly into high school programs.
Additionally, the meeting addressed the steady increase in state-approved industry credentials across various labs, reflecting the dedication of both students and instructors. Proficiency rates for the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) exams have also shown improvement, with 17 out of 18 labs participating in these assessments.
Another key topic discussed was the partnership with the United Way, which has expanded community support for students through increased industry engagement, guest speakers, and tours. This collaboration aims to enhance students' exposure to real-world work environments.
Looking ahead, plans for new program development were also unveiled. Officials are considering the introduction of an education program aimed at K-12 educators, which has received backing from local advisory committees. The next steps include seeking board approval to move forward with planning and forming an occupational advisory committee to guide the program's development.
Overall, the meeting underscored the district's commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and workforce readiness for students, with a focus on collaboration and community involvement.
