During a recent government meeting, local officials celebrated the remarkable achievements of the district's quiz bowl teams, highlighting their impressive performances in various competitions throughout the year.
The sixth-grade team, led by captain Noah, showcased their skills in the elementary division, securing top placements in several Alabama tournaments. They finished 1st at the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering and Discovery Middle School, and 2nd at ARAB and the state championship, ultimately qualifying for the Questions Unlimited Nationals. At nationals, they reached the semifinals, finishing 3rd in the nation.
The eighth-grade team also garnered significant accolades, concluding their season with an outstanding 71-5 record and clinching two national championships. They dominated every Alabama Invitational tournament, including the Etowah County and State competitions. Notably, they became the first team from Gadsden City to win the Alabama Public Television championship and the state championship.
In a remarkable feat, the eighth-grade team was the only Alabama representative to reach the finals at the NAQ2 competition in Chicago, where they placed 13th out of 160 teams. Individual standout Latika achieved an impressive 13th place out of 793 competitors nationwide. Just weeks later, the team continued their success by competing in New Orleans.
The meeting underscored the importance of academic excellence and teamwork, with officials expressing pride in the students' dedication and achievements.
