During the recent government meeting, discussions centered on the progress of local housing initiatives and updates from various committees. Jody reported that the homeless initiative task force had not convened since the last meeting, with plans for a future gathering in two weeks.
Kate provided an update on the Building Management Association (BMA), highlighting a request from Lincoln Avenue for $400,000 in Affordable Housing Trust (AHT) funds to develop 80 Meramec Street. This project aims to create 50 affordable housing units, including eight designated for veterans, catering to individuals earning at or below 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
The meeting also noted the resignation of Todd Connor from the Planning Board, with Steven Minow and Robert Gagne nominated as his replacements. Additionally, an application for the demolition of a property at 311 Spruce Street was discussed, although it was not deemed controversial.
Another significant development was the approval of a project at 1138 Elm Street, known as the Lamont Hanley Building, which will include 14 units set aside for workforce housing that will accept housing choice vouchers for a decade. This project is part of a broader effort to increase affordable housing options in the area.
The next BMA meeting is scheduled for October 1, with plans to resume bi-monthly meetings thereafter, except for November due to Thanksgiving. The discussions underscored ongoing efforts to address housing needs and the importance of maintaining affordable options for residents.
