During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the approval of a resolution for the Main Street Landing Project, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the local riverfront. Clay Merritt, from the Engineering and Capital Projects department, presented an overview of the project, emphasizing its long-term planning history spanning over two decades.
Merritt highlighted that the project is part of a broader vision to create a world-class riverfront, driven by community input following the federal government's approval of the American Rescue Plan Act. This funding allowed the city council to prioritize various projects, with Main Street Landing being a key focus, estimated to cost around $6 million.
Additionally, Merritt noted that the state of Iowa's discretionary grant program, aimed at supporting quality of life projects, provided an opportunity for further funding. The city successfully applied for a grant, securing $9.6 million in partnership with the Figgy, which will significantly contribute to the project's development.
The meeting underscored the collaborative efforts between local government and community stakeholders to enhance public spaces and improve regional amenities, marking a pivotal step in the ongoing development of the riverfront area.
