During a recent government meeting, officials held a public hearing to discuss the draft of the 2024-2025 District Wide Safety Plan. The draft, which was made available on the district's website on July 8, is part of a 30-day public comment period aimed at ensuring community involvement in the safety planning process.
The safety plan is designed to comply with Education Law 2801 A and Commissioner’s Regulations 155.17, focusing on preventing and minimizing the impact of violent incidents and emergencies within schools. It also aims to enhance coordination between schools and local emergency resources during such events.
The Chief Emergency Officer, who presented the plan, noted that it had been thoroughly reviewed by the district's Health and Safety Committee on May 29, 2024. The public was invited to provide feedback during the hearing, with comments also accepted through direct contact until the end of the meeting.
In addition to the district-wide plan, updates to building-level safety plans are being conducted with the help of Altera Safety Consultants and local safety teams. Following the public hearing, any feedback received will be considered for revisions before the plan is submitted for approval at the next board meeting. Once finalized, the plan will be shared with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies, as well as uploaded to the State Education Department, in line with annual requirements.
