During a recent government meeting, officials discussed several key amendments to local traffic and parking regulations aimed at improving safety and accessibility for residents.
The first item on the agenda proposed an amendment to prohibit left turns from the southbound side of North Shore Road onto Cove Street during school hours. Iron Ovasolsky, a representative from the neighborhood, voiced concerns from residents about traffic congestion caused by vehicles attempting to make this turn, which often leads to backups extending to Shirley Avenue. While some residents support the change, Ovasolsky noted that opinions are divided within the community. The council ultimately decided to table the motion until further review by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT).
The meeting also addressed a request to add a handicapped parking space at 288 Crescent Avenue. After confirming that all necessary requirements were met, the council unanimously approved this amendment.
Additionally, Councilor Joanne McKenna proposed extending 24/7 resident parking permits to the upper half of Endicott Avenue, which currently allows overnight parking. McKenna highlighted issues with non-residents parking in front of homes, particularly those using the area for access to the nearby train station and Airbnbs. The council recognized the need for this change to alleviate parking difficulties for local residents and moved to approve the amendment.
These discussions reflect ongoing efforts by local officials to enhance community safety and address residents' concerns regarding traffic and parking regulations.
