In a recent government meeting, the board unanimously approved the local historic designation for two properties in Coral Gables, recognizing their historical, cultural, and architectural significance.
The first property, located at 3920 Durango Street, was designated based on its embodiment of significant historical and architectural characteristics. The motion, made by board member Mister Banyos and seconded by Mister Durano, highlighted the property’s representation of historical trends and distinctive architectural styles. The board members voted 7-0 in favor of the designation, underscoring the community's commitment to preserving its heritage.
Following this, the board considered the property at 4722 Alhambra Circle, which is also seeking local historic landmark status. The property, historically known as 4722 Ferdinand Street, is notable for its architectural integrity, having been built in 1925 without any additions that would alter its original style. The historic preservation coordinator, Elizabeth Guillau, presented the case, emphasizing that the property meets multiple criteria for designation, including its representation of historical and architectural trends.
The board agreed to handle the designation and the subsequent request for an accelerated certificate of appropriateness separately, ensuring thorough consideration of both matters. The meeting reflects Coral Gables' ongoing efforts to maintain its historical identity through careful preservation of significant properties.
