In a recent planning commission meeting, officials discussed the annexation and zoning of a 14.12-acre site located southeast of Stetson Hills Boulevard and North Mark Sheffel Road. The proposal, presented by planning supervisor Gabe Savignier, includes the establishment of a mixed-use medium scale (MXM) zone with an airport overlay, aimed at facilitating the development of a future charter school.
The application process began with a petition submitted on August 25 and was accepted by the city council on February 13. Following a series of reviews, the proposal reached the planning commission stage after a checkpoint with the city council earlier this week.
Savignier emphasized the importance of the airport overlay, which mandates that any future development plans undergo review by the airport advisory committee. This requirement is crucial for ensuring that developments align with airport operations and safety protocols.
During the meeting, it was noted that notifications were sent to homeowners within a 1,000-foot radius of the site, and posters were displayed to inform the public. While no formal comments were received regarding the initial submission, one email was sent expressing concerns about potential traffic impacts related to the proposed development.
The planning commission will continue to evaluate the proposal, considering both the benefits of the new charter school and the community's concerns regarding traffic.
