Christie reported being in the office for 17 out of 18 days, conducting outreach at various events, including the Wet Mountain Valley Stampede and Airfest. During this period, she managed 52 appointments, with a total of 255 claims processed, including 66 first-time claims from veterans previously unknown to the VA. This reflects a growing awareness and utilization of veteran services in the area.

Financially, the report indicated a substantial increase in compensation for veterans, totaling approximately $1.6 million since August of the previous year. Of the new claims, 38 veterans are now receiving service-connected compensation, contributing to a total monthly compensation increase of $93,000. However, there remains a backlog of claims and a need for improved communication from the VA regarding debt waivers for veterans.

Christie emphasized the importance of outreach, noting that many veterans remain unaware of their eligibility for benefits. She plans to initiate a women's veterans coffee group to create a more welcoming environment for female veterans, addressing concerns about the existing social dynamics at veteran gatherings.

The meeting also touched on the challenges faced by the veteran services office, including a growing caseload that limits the ability to assist out-of-state veterans. Christie expressed a desire to focus on local veterans, particularly as the county aims to increase its veteran population percentage, currently at 12.7%, with aspirations to reach 13%.
