During a recent government meeting, members of the California Assembly gathered to honor the legacies of two influential figures, Delane Easton and Reginald \"Reggie\" Webb, both of whom made significant contributions to their communities and the state.

Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry led the tribute to Delane Easton, a trailblazer in California politics and the first woman to serve as the state superintendent of public instruction. Easton, who passed away on April 23 at the age of 76, was remembered for her dedication to education and her role in empowering women in politics. Aguiar-Curry shared personal anecdotes about Easton's mentorship and her commitment to ensuring that every child had access to quality education. Easton’s legacy includes her efforts to support progressive women in public office and her influence on future generations of leaders.

Assemblymember McCarty also spoke about Easton, recalling her impactful presence in the Assembly and her unwavering belief in the importance of investing in education. He highlighted her pioneering work in advocating for universal preschool, noting that Easton was the first to introduce such legislation in California.

In addition to Easton, Assemblymember Holden requested to adjourn in memory of Reggie Webb, a prominent figure in the fast-food industry and a champion for economic empowerment in Black communities. Webb, who passed away on July 20, was recognized for his leadership in establishing successful McDonald's franchises and his commitment to helping others achieve financial independence. His legacy includes founding the Cooperative Economic Empowerment Movement, aimed at fostering generational wealth among Black entrepreneurs.

Holden also honored Arzela Valentine, a respected businesswoman and poet, who passed away on July 31. Valentine was celebrated for her contributions to the Pasadena community and her active involvement in various organizations, including the NAACP and the Urban League.

The Assembly members expressed their condolences to the families of Easton, Webb, and Valentine, emphasizing the lasting impact these individuals had on their communities and the state of California.
