During a recent government meeting, city officials convened to discuss the urgent repairs needed for the storm sewer system on North End Street, which has suffered significant failures. The public hearing was opened to address the plan specifications, contract forms, and cost estimates associated with the project.
City staff reported that the storm sewer failure was unplanned, but sufficient funds were available in the stormwater budget to cover the necessary repairs. Residents in the affected area have raised concerns about the right of way collapsing due to voids beneath the street. Schneider Engineering has been engaged to oversee the project, which has attracted competitive bids, with TK Concrete submitting the lowest base bid.
The proposed work includes excavating and replacing the failed pipes, as well as addressing the underlying voids. The project is expected to commence in mid-October and will take approximately 20 working days to complete. Officials emphasized the importance of quality workmanship, noting that previous construction issues, including improper pipe connections, contributed to the current failures.
Residents will be informed about the project timeline and potential disruptions to access their driveways. The contractor is responsible for communicating directly with property owners and will provide notices regarding the project's progress. Temporary lane closures and parking restrictions will be implemented to facilitate the repairs while minimizing inconvenience to the community.
City officials are committed to ensuring that residents are kept informed throughout the process, with a pre-construction meeting planned to discuss the project details further.
