Daugherty High School has kicked off the 2024-2025 academic year with a vibrant start, showcasing a series of engaging activities designed to foster school spirit and community involvement. Prior to the first day of school, the Associated Student Body (ASB) decorated the campus with colorful posters and created photo backdrops for students, setting a festive tone for the year ahead.
On the inaugural day, ASB members and cheerleaders warmly welcomed students, distributing popsicles during lunch to celebrate the occasion. The following week featured a \"Ride the Wave\" spirit week, themed around beach activities, culminating in the annual Blue Wave rally held in the performing arts center. This event provided students with essential information for the new school year and included cheer-offs and games, enhancing camaraderie among grade levels.
A highlight of the rally was the announcement of the homecoming theme, \"A Night in the Capital: A Hunger Games Homecoming,\" generating excitement for the upcoming festivities. The school also hosted a successful Club Rush event, introducing students to 22 active clubs, ensuring there are opportunities for everyone to get involved.
Senior students participated in a \"Senior Sunrise\" event, gathering early to watch the sunrise together, while the Key Club organized a blood drive, which was postponed due to heat but demonstrated strong student interest. Fundraising efforts included a \"Soak a Senior\" event, where seniors were doused with water for donations, raising over $500.
Looking ahead, Daugherty High is gearing up for Hispanic Heritage Month with activities aimed at celebrating and educating students about Hispanic culture, including a salsa tasting event. Homecoming festivities are set to begin soon, with court voting scheduled for September 16-17 and a rally on September 20. The spirit week will follow from September 23-27, leading up to the homecoming game and dance on September 27 and 28, respectively.
Athletic programs are thriving, with the football teams, volleyball, and cross country all actively training and preparing for their seasons. The marching band and cheer team are also gearing up to support school events, contributing to the lively atmosphere on campus.
Daugherty High School's recent renovations, including a fresh paint job and landscaping improvements, have further enhanced the campus environment, making it an exciting time for students and staff alike. With a strong sense of community and enthusiasm, the school is poised for a successful year ahead.
