The Super Smash Brothers team from Southridge High School has achieved remarkable success this season, finishing with an undefeated record in the state. Competing against formidable opponents, the team secured victories in all eight of their matches leading up to the state competition. Their goal during the state tournament was to maintain their winning streak, and they succeeded, losing only one game throughout the event but not a single match.
The structure of the matches involves five games, each with varying point values assigned based on player positions, which adds a strategic layer to the competition. Coach Giancola emphasized the importance of esports beyond high school, highlighting that three current students and two alumni will continue their gaming careers at the collegiate level. Skyler, Tallon, and Tam are set to join Columbia Basin College's Overwatch 2 team, while Ryland, a recent graduate, will also compete for CBC after a gap year. Additionally, Daniel will transition from CBC to the University of Idaho to play for their Valorant team.
The team is optimistic about expanding their club this year and aims for another successful season. The meeting concluded with congratulations to Coach Giancola and the students for their outstanding achievements in esports.
