In a recent meeting, the Monrovia Unified School District Board of Education approved several significant partnerships aimed at enhancing vocational training opportunities for adult learners.
The board first approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with My Next Chapter, a program designed to assist foster youth and young adults in acquiring essential life skills and securing employment. This partnership will run from September 14, 2022, to June 30, 2025, and will provide training through various formats, including in-person and online classes.
Next, the board approved an MOU with AUMT Institute, a phlebotomy school, to offer certified phlebotomy technician training to students at the Monrovia Community Adult School (MCAS). This initiative aims to address the growing demand for certified phlebotomists, particularly as healthcare needs have surged post-pandemic. The program will also run until June 30, 2025, and is expected to enhance the employability of graduates, many of whom have already completed other medical training programs.
Additionally, the board approved a partnership with San Gabriel Valley Trucking Academy to provide truck driver training programs. This MOU will also be effective until June 30, 2025, and aims to equip students with the necessary licenses to pursue careers in a field currently facing a significant labor shortage. The training will allow students to earn Class A, Class B, or Class BP licenses, which are essential for operating commercial vehicles.
Board members expressed strong support for these initiatives, highlighting their importance in providing valuable skills and job opportunities to the community. The partnerships are seen as a proactive response to workforce demands and a commitment to supporting adult education in Monrovia. All three motions passed unanimously, reflecting the board's dedication to enhancing educational services and vocational training for local residents.
