During a recent Board of Education meeting, members discussed and approved a significant resolution regarding the California Schools Healthy Air Plumbing and Efficiency Program (Cal SHAPE). Ms. Smith presented the resolution, which aims to enhance air quality in schools by addressing HVAC systems. The California Energy Commission oversees this grant program, which provides funding specifically for school districts to assess and improve their heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
The board was informed that the district successfully applied for and received $435,362 in grant funding, designated for six school sites. This funding will facilitate comprehensive assessments of existing filtration systems, economizers, dampers, controls, programmable thermostats, and CO2 monitors. Additionally, it will support the implementation of corrective actions identified during these assessments, particularly in schools located near freeways or industrial facilities, which are prioritized under the program.
The resolution was unanimously approved by the board, with all members voting in favor. Following this, the meeting transitioned to a public hearing on the proposed adopted budget for the 2022-2023 fiscal year, with appreciation expressed for the efforts of the director of fiscal services in preparing the budget.
