In a historic achievement for the McKinney Police Department, Officer Anna Jagneaux and Paramedic Karen Williams have become the first female members to successfully complete the rigorous tryout process for the McKinney SWAT team. The tryouts, held in March 2024, saw 11 applicants, but only 6 individuals—4 police officers and 2 paramedics—earned probationary positions after a demanding selection day.
The selection process consisted of three challenging phases, including a physical fitness test, critical thinking exercises under stress, and endurance tasks. Officer Jagneaux notably excelled, completing 18 pull-ups, significantly above average, while both she and Williams demonstrated exceptional physical and mental resilience throughout the day-long trials.
Following their selection, Jagneaux and Williams entered a six-month probationary period, during which they trained alongside their male counterparts, participated in a week-long SWAT training program, and graduated from the Texas Tactical Police Officers Association's Basic SWAT course. Their hard work culminated in a unanimous vote from the team in September, officially marking their transition to full SWAT team members.
In addition to this groundbreaking achievement, the McKinney City Council also proclaimed October 2024 as Community Planning Month, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in urban development and planning. Mayor George Fuller highlighted the role of city planners and encouraged residents to engage in upcoming public events designed to foster understanding and appreciation of community planning efforts.
The meeting concluded with a discussion on the upcoming elections for the Central Appraisal District Board of Directors, where the council will consider nominations for board appointments.
