During a recent government meeting, concerns were raised regarding ongoing utility work that has led to blocked sidewalks on Castleman Street, forcing pedestrians, including children, to walk in the street. A city engineer, Gordon, reported that the city has been in contact with the contractor for CenturyLink, also known as Lumen, to address the issue of a hole on the west side of Castleman.
Frustration was evident among officials, with one member expressing dissatisfaction over the prolonged nature of the utility work, which has persisted since last spring. The engineer acknowledged the difficulties in communication with the contractor, stating that efforts to expedite the closure of the hole have been met with challenges.
Officials discussed potential actions to resolve the situation, including the possibility of filling the hole themselves and billing the contractor for the work. The city attorney was tasked with exploring legal avenues to ensure the contractor fulfills their obligations, especially with winter approaching.
In addition to the utility concerns, the meeting also covered a hearing regarding the rezoning of several properties, including those owned by Kwik Trip Incorporated. The council moved forward with the recommendations from the planning and zoning committee, indicating a proactive approach to local development.
