A new initiative aimed at enhancing financial literacy and closing the wealth gap in American communities was launched in Montgomery, Alabama, by Operation Hope founder John Hope Bryant. The tour, which began in 2024, seeks to connect citizens with civic leaders and elected officials to foster systemic change through education and community engagement.

Bryant emphasized that financial literacy is the civil rights issue of our time, highlighting the importance of education in addressing economic disparities. He stated, \"If we are to close that wealth gap, we start with education,\" underscoring the need for actionable conversations about financial inequities.

Larry Raquette, a financial coach with Operation Hope, shared a success story from his work, detailing how he helped client Portia McGraw improve her credit score, enabling her and her husband to purchase their first home. McGraw expressed gratitude for the guidance she received, stating, \"Operation Hope really gave us hope,\" and encouraged others to learn about credit management.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed also spoke at the event, reiterating his administration's commitment to financial empowerment and community support. He praised Bryant's efforts and highlighted the significance of financial literacy in building stronger families and neighborhoods. \"When individuals have access to the knowledge and resources to manage their finances, it leads to healthier families, stronger neighborhoods, and a more prosperous city,\" Reed stated.
