In a recent government meeting, discussions highlighted the significant impact of the National Quantum Initiative Act, passed in 2018, on advancing quantum research and economic development in Montana. The initiative has catalyzed a surge in the quantum supply chain, resulting in the establishment of over 50 companies and the creation of approximately 1,200 jobs in the state.
Montana State University plays a pivotal role in this growth, hosting the Monarch Quantum Foundry, which specializes in quantum materials research. Additionally, the Headwater Technology Hub, supported by the CHIPS and Science Act, focuses on smart photonics, a crucial element for the future of quantum technology.
The meeting underscored Montana's emerging leadership in the quantum and photonics sectors, with strong backing from various organizations, including the Montana Photonics and Quantum Alliance and the Quantum Economic Development Consortium. A request was made to enter into the record numerous letters of support for the reauthorization of the Department of Energy's Quantum Initiative, reflecting a broad consensus on the importance of continued investment in this field.
