In a recent government meeting, the Historic Landmark Commission discussed a proposal for new multifamily residential construction at 630 East 100 South, submitted by the Other Side Academy. The project, identified as case number plnhlc2024-00791, is being reviewed under the new construction standards and multifamily design guidelines.
Planning staff recommended approval of the project with specific conditions outlined in their report. The proposed building will be situated behind the historic Langton House, which currently operates as an attorney's office. The site is located within an RMF 45 zoning district, permitting a maximum building height of 45 feet.
During the meeting, Commissioner Carlton disclosed that his firm is engaged in a separate project with the Other Side Academy, although it does not pertain to the current proposal. This transparency was acknowledged as appropriate by the commission.
The meeting also highlighted the ongoing efforts of developers to adapt their proposals in response to feedback from the commission, as evidenced by a previous project involving infill housing that was scaled down without complaint from the developers. This adaptability was noted as a positive aspect of the commission's interactions with developers.
As the commission moves forward with the public hearing process, the focus remains on balancing new development with the preservation of the area's historic character.
