Burkell hails from Saint Henry Parish and attends North Shore High School, earning commendations from the committee for his accomplishments.
The meeting also addressed administrative matters, including a motion that was unanimously approved after a brief voting process. Human Resources updates were presented by Belinda Pennison, who reported that the district currently has 17 teacher vacancies, with replacements in progress. Overall, the district has reduced its total vacancies to 60 across all job classes, with a notable decrease in paraprofessional vacancies down to 15.
Additionally, the district's substitute teacher situation is improving, with a total of 1,190 available substitutes, of which 1,063 are eligible to fill teaching roles. The substitute fill rate has reached 84% for the current school year, indicating progress in addressing staffing needs within the educational system.
