In a spirited conclusion to the 17th annual Carmel Automobilia, two classic cars vied for top honors, showcasing the passion and dedication of their owners. The finalists included a stunning 1956 Corvette and a rare 1938 Jaguar SS 100, each with unique histories and stories.
The Corvette, restored in 1990 and previously a museum piece, was acquired by its current owner just a year ago. With only 440 miles driven since its purchase, the car retains its original cascade gray-green finish, a testament to its pristine condition. The owner shared that it was previously housed in a private collection belonging to Clyde Horst, an entrepreneur who amassed a fleet of 1956 Corvettes to celebrate his high school graduation.
On the other hand, the Jaguar SS 100, owned by a passionate car enthusiast, has been in the family for about 40 years. The owner recounted a competitive bidding war to secure the vehicle, emphasizing its rarity as one of only 108 ever made. This classic has been showcased at various prestigious events across the country, consistently earning accolades.
After careful deliberation, the judges announced the Jaguar as the \"Best in Show,\" with the Corvette earning the title of runner-up. The head judge, Dave Renshaw, who has been part of the event for 15 years, expressed gratitude for the community's support and announced a transition in leadership to George Billison, who will take over the judging responsibilities.
The event highlighted the importance of volunteer efforts in making the show a success, with organizers encouraging attendees to get involved in future events. As the day concluded, both car owners left with smiles, celebrating their vehicles' recognition in a vibrant automotive community.
