In a recent government meeting, two deputies were honored for their heroic actions that saved the lives of young children in separate incidents.
Deputy Brian Root received a lifesaving award for his quick response during a structure fire in Niles on January 21, 2024. Upon arriving at the scene, he noticed a woman struggling to escape from a second-floor window. Demonstrating remarkable composure under pressure, Deputy Root ascended a ladder and safely carried her down, preventing potential smoke inhalation and ensuring her safety.
The meeting also recognized Deputy Dominic Forsteri, who was awarded for his courageous actions on March 22, 2024. While on patrol, he witnessed a car crash and immediately sprang into action when the driver emerged, frantically holding an infant who was not breathing. Deputy Forsteri called for an ambulance, performed back blows, and initiated chest compressions, successfully reviving the child temporarily. He then transported the infant to the hospital, continuing life-saving measures en route, and handed the child over to emergency medical staff upon arrival.
Both deputies exemplified bravery and quick thinking in life-threatening situations, showcasing the critical role of first responders in their communities. The meeting concluded with a note of gratitude for their service and dedication to saving lives.
