The Clayton Town Council held a meeting highlighting two significant community events: the upcoming Clayton Harvest Festival and the proclamation of National Community Planning Month.
The Harvest Festival, hosted annually in October by the Clayton Chamber of Commerce, has been a cherished tradition since its inception in 1951. This year, the four-day festival is expected to attract over 30,000 attendees, with nearly half coming from outside the town. The event features a variety of activities, including community-focused events, vendors, carnival rides, a car show, and a Latin American celebration, all contributing to a substantial economic impact. According to an NC State Tourism Extension Study, the festival generates approximately $500,000 for local businesses during its Saturday festivities. The event is free to attend, with convenient park-and-ride services available at Clayton High School.
In addition to the festival, the council proclaimed October as National Community Planning Month, recognizing the importance of community planning in managing change and enhancing the quality of life for residents. The proclamation acknowledges the contributions of planning commissions and citizen planners in shaping the future of Clayton. The council expressed gratitude for their dedication and service, emphasizing the role of community involvement in effective planning.
These initiatives reflect Clayton's commitment to fostering community spirit and economic growth while encouraging active participation in local governance.
