During a recent government meeting, heartfelt tributes and prayer requests were shared for members of the community facing significant health challenges and losses. The meeting began with a request to remember Sheila Mack, a beloved member of the Central Park School family, who passed away after a battle with cancer. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, October 11, with the funeral taking place the following day at King's Funeral Home in Ruston.
The meeting also highlighted the ongoing struggles of several individuals, including Gunnar Porter, a sixth grader at Benton Intermediate currently receiving treatment for spinal cancer at New Orleans Children's Hospital. Longtime Houghton High School head football coach Will Marston has returned home from the hospital and is now under hospice care, prompting calls for support for the Marston family and the Houghton community.
Additional prayer requests included Mr. Bertrand's father, who is battling cancer, and Houghton High School English teacher Tanya Arnold, as well as Tracy Bamberg, who is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. The meeting concluded with a tribute to Susan Hartsfield, a former board member and a significant figure in the Bossier Parish school system, who passed away on September 27. A celebration of her life was held recently, and the community was urged to keep the Bass family in their thoughts.
Following the emotional tributes, the board moved on to administrative matters, approving the minutes from the previous meeting and the agenda for the upcoming session. The meeting underscored the importance of community support during difficult times while also addressing essential governance tasks.
