During a recent government meeting, significant discussions centered around the support provided to students with disabilities in Utah. The focus was on the efforts of the USB assistive technology team, which has been instrumental in delivering tailored resources for students who are blind, visually impaired, or deaf-blind.
The team reported on their successful implementation of assistive technology (AT) cohorts, which included 16 professional development sessions covering advanced AT topics. These sessions collectively provided over 5,000 minutes of training aimed at equipping teachers with the necessary skills to support their students effectively.
Additionally, the expanded core services team highlighted their outreach efforts, which engaged over 500 families in activities related to the expanded core curriculum (ECC) for students with visual impairments. This outreach is part of a broader initiative that saw the USB provide 451 services from Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments (TSVI) and 346 Orientation and Mobility (O&M) services to students across various school districts and charter schools in the state.
The meeting underscored the importance of individualized support and collaboration among educators to enhance the educational experiences of students with disabilities, showcasing a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility in Utah's educational framework.
