During a recent government meeting, Nassau County officials addressed ongoing code enforcement issues concerning a property located at 2018 Cash and Wood Drive, Fernandina Beach. Officer Margie Camacho presented evidence of multiple violations, including the presence of unserviceable vehicles and general nuisances that pose a threat to public health.
The county received a complaint on July 23, 2024, prompting an initial inspection two days later. Officer Camacho documented the violations and issued a courtesy letter to the property owner, requiring compliance with specific sections of the county code by August 5, 2024. However, a follow-up inspection on August 7 revealed that the property remained in violation, leading to a formal notice of violation sent to the owner, with a compliance deadline set for September 6, 2024.
Despite further inspections and notifications, including a notice of hearing posted on the property, the situation persisted. Officer Camacho reported that as of October 7, 2024, the property continued to violate county ordinances. The county is now seeking a formal order to declare the property in violation, with a proposed compliance date of November 8, 2024, and a daily fine of $100 until the issues are resolved. A fine assessment hearing is scheduled for November 12, 2024.
The meeting highlighted the county's commitment to enforcing local codes and maintaining public health standards, although communication with the property owner has reportedly been non-existent, aside from minimal lawn maintenance observed.
