Community members expressed frustration over the lack of transparency and leadership in determining a purchase price for the water system, which is estimated to cost around $90 million. Susan Grody, a local resident, highlighted the confusion surrounding the financial responsibilities, stating that residents were initially tasked with gauging support for a buyout but were later informed they would need to cover a third of the total costs without a clear price being established.

Sheila Mayhew echoed these sentiments, urging the board to expedite the process, as residents are eager to vote on a buyout price. She pointed out the ongoing struggles with water quality, which have led to increased expenses for bottled water and purification systems.

Frank Lallotte, another resident, simplified the financial implications, noting the significant difference in water rates between Pluris and Orange County, which adds an additional burden on Wedgefield residents. Mayor Demings acknowledged the residents' concerns and indicated that a special report regarding the Pluris situation would be presented later in the meeting.
