Historic women's decathlon crowned world's greatest female athlete

In a recent government meeting, the El Segundo City Council celebrated the remarkable achievements of local athlete Lisonbee Hallerson, who has made history in the world of track and field. Hallerson, a former standout runner from El Segundo High School, was recognized for winning the inaugural women's decathlon world championship, a groundbreaking event that took place alongside the men's Olympic decathlon in Paris.

This championship marked a significant milestone in the evolution of women's athletics, as female athletes have historically been excluded from the decathlon, which consists of ten events. Instead, women have been limited to the heptathlon, a seven-event alternative. In a bold move to assert their place in the sport, pioneering female decathletes organized their own championship, drawing participation from over 30 women across 12 countries.

Hallerson, representing Armenia, claimed the gold medal with an impressive score of 7,236 points, setting a new world record in the women's decathlon 100 meters and establishing national records for Armenia in both the decathlon and pole vault. Her achievements have earned her the title of the world's greatest female athlete, a recognition that the council honored during the meeting.

Although Hallerson was unable to attend the ceremony, her father accepted the award on her behalf, expressing gratitude for the recognition of her accomplishments. The council acknowledged Hallerson's long-standing connection to the community and her contributions to the sport, highlighting her pride in representing El Segundo on an international stage.
