During a recent government meeting, the president of the Kitsap Aircraft Radio Control Society highlighted the organization's commitment to fostering youth interest in aviation. The society operates a flying site near Sunny Slope, south of the local airport, and has partnered with the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) to engage young people in aviation activities.
Over the past year, the society successfully introduced a program for \"Young Eagles,\" targeting children aged 10 to 16. Participants had the opportunity to construct and fly model airplanes, gaining hands-on experience in aviation. This initiative was made possible through the collaboration with EAA members, who provided support and resources.
Looking ahead, the society announced the launch of another class scheduled to begin on Saturday, the 28th. This new program will accommodate approximately eight juniors, all of whom have recently qualified to fly remote-controlled airplanes. The focus will shift from merely flying to repairing and constructing their own aircraft, further enhancing their skills and knowledge in the field.
The society's efforts underscore a growing commitment to youth engagement in aviation, providing valuable educational experiences and fostering a new generation of aviation enthusiasts.
