During a recent government meeting, the local library reported impressive summer reading statistics and programming updates that highlight its growing engagement with the community.

The library's summer reading initiative saw participation from 86 children aged five and under, with 62 of them reading a total of 1,725 books. A special ceremony was held to award library cards to all incoming kindergarteners, fostering excitement among the young readers. The \"Pirates\" reading program for children aged 6 to 11 attracted 142 participants, who collectively logged 694 hours of reading. Meanwhile, the \"Buccaneers\" program for teenagers had 28 sign-ups, with 9 actively participating and reading for a total of 192 hours.

Circulation numbers reflected a positive trend, with July recording 2,681 total circulations and 101 new or renewed library accounts. Although August saw a decrease in children's programming, the library still managed 1,939 circulations and welcomed 87 new members.

The library also engaged patrons through passive programs, which included crafts and handouts, attracting 116 children and teens. Adult programming was robust as well, with 351 participants in book clubs and meetings.

Looking ahead to September, the library anticipates a surge in activity, having already recorded 1,703 visitors and 41 programs, a notable achievement for one of the smallest libraries in Galveston County. The programs attracted 328 children, 200 teens, and 462 adults, showcasing the library's commitment to serving its community and promoting literacy across all age groups.
