In a recent government meeting, officials discussed the approval of a $200,000 funding request for the bike Apex plan, which is part of the broader park's master plan adopted in 2023. The town plans to contribute an additional $250,000 in matching funds. The motion to support the funding was unanimously approved by the board.
The meeting also featured the introduction of Sarah Williams, the newly appointed Mobility Manager for the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (Campo). Williams outlined her role, which focuses on improving public transportation access for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and low-income residents across six counties: Wake, Johnston, Chatham, Granville, Harnett, and Franklin.
Williams emphasized the need for better coordination among transit agencies to address gaps in service, particularly in rural areas where fixed-route bus service is limited. She highlighted the importance of creating a centralized resource for transit information to assist residents in navigating transportation options, especially for medical appointments.
The Mobility Management program aims to enhance outreach, data collection, and coordination among transit providers. Williams is currently working on developing a comprehensive database that will detail transportation services available in each county, making it easier for residents to access necessary information.
Additionally, Williams noted the importance of collaboration with neighboring MPOs, particularly in addressing transportation needs for residents traveling to medical facilities outside the region, such as Duke Hospital and UNC Hospital. The meeting concluded with a commitment to ongoing efforts to improve mobility services and ensure that all community members have access to essential transportation resources.
